The Speech and Language Base is an additional provision provided for Key Stage Two children across North Hertfordshire. This extra provision is for eight pupils, across years 4-6, for children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) whose predominant need is speech, language and communication and who receive significant support from a speech and language therapist during school time.
Our Base pupils are fully integrated with their mainstream peers and are all placed in a class within their chronological age group.
The children, as with all of our pupils, access differentiated setting groups in English and Maths. They are supported by a specialist teaching assistant in English, Maths and Science to support their engagement alongside their mainstream peers. Each pupil has a linked teaching assistant who works with them on their EHCP targets.
The Speech therapists work closely with pupils, parents and school staff to ensure consistency of speech provision for these pupils across all areas of school life.
The Speech and Language Base is now closed to new admissions.
