Attendance

Attendance Procedures

The school will communicate your child's attendance at the end of each term on their reports. If a child's attendance drops below 95%, we will send an email to offer support to help improve attendance. Pupils with attendance below 90% are identified by the Department of Education as being pupils with Persistent Absenteeism (PA). This group of children are at risk of achieving below their expected levels of academic attainment and as such, we communicate with parents at the start of each half term if a child's attendance is below 90% for the year to date. Please see our procedure below for more details.

Mental Health and Wellbeing at Round Diamond

As a school, wellbeing and mental health in our pupils and staff are a high priority; Round Diamond is committed to supporting the resilience, emotional health and wellbeing of our pupils and staff.

We know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and at times, some may need additional emotional support. We take the view that positive mental health is of central importance and intrinsic to our lives. At Round Diamond, we work collaboratively to ensure staff and pupils feel supported, heard, accepted, valued and empowered.

At Round Diamond we:

  • Help children to understand their emotions and feelings better
  • Help children feel comfortable sharing any concerns or worries
  • Promote self-esteem and ensure children know that they count
  • Help children to develop emotional resilience and to manage setbacks

We do this through:

  • Our comprehensive RSHE curriculum and our life skills class assemblies
  • Creating and maintaining a safe and supportive environment in school
  • Promoting and teaching about our PRIDE values in class and in assemblies – we promote the idea of working together through challenges.
  • Celebrating a variety of class and pupil achievements in class and as a school.
  • Our enrichment days which have a wellbeing focus.

We also offer additional support to those children who may benefit from it.

Common life events which may affect a child’s wellbeing:

  • Loss or bereavement
  • Loneliness
  • Friendship problems
  • Issues at school
  • Worries

We all have times when we struggle with our mental wellbeing, where we feel stressed, upset or find it difficult to cope.

If you or your child are struggling with your mental health, please come and speak to us as we can signpost you to the best support for you and/or your child.
