School Meals

Packed lunches

We encourage all pupils to have healthy packed lunches whilst in school. This is to support your child's focus, memory and to improve their overall learning outcome in the afternoon, so your child can get the best out of their education at Round Diamond. We kindly request that the following foods not be included in packed lunches to help us to sustain this message:

  • No fizzy, carbonated drinks.

  • No sweets.

  • No nut-based snacks as we aim to be a nut-free school.

Snacks are often consumed at our mid-morning breaktime. For our Early Years and KS1 classes, fruit and vegetables are provided for the children as part of a Government incentive. For children in Year 3 and above, we ask that all snacks provided support the above message of healthy eating.

Our School Dinners

We are delighted that HCL (Hertfordshire Catering Limited) is our school lunch provider.  HCL take pride in the meals they serve; their meals are packed with great and tasty ingredients to help your child really enjoy lunchtimes at school.

Eating the right balance of healthy, tasty food helps all children to learn and develop.  Choosing a school meal will give your child the chance to try new foods and to enjoy eating with their friends, whilst tucking into delicious meals packed full of the energy and essential nutrients they need to grow and learn.

Our daily menu offers a choice of food for all pupils (and staff) so there’s always something to tempt even the most sensitive taste palate!

HCL have a rigorous process in place to provide a safe meal service to pupils with food allergies or intolerances. If your child has a food allergy or intolerance and meets the qualifying criteria, then HCL have a range of delicious and nutritious menus designed especially for your child’s medical requirements.

School dinner ordering and payment

Round Diamond School and HCL have worked together on a new dinner money system so that parents can order and pay for their child’s dinners online through HCL.

All transactions take place through their website, orders.citrus.online (www. is not needed at the start).  Once you have registered and claimed, you will be able to choose from the options available for each day.  HCL have a Winter menu from October half-term to April and a Summer menu from April to October half-term.

Dinners for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes can have a school dinner at no charge under the government UIFSM (Universal Infant Free School Meal) scheme.

If you feel you may qualify for income-related free school meals for any year group, it is easy to apply online at hertfordshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals, and this may also provide additional benefits within school.

School dinner prices from 11th September 2025 are £3.45 per day.

Dinners can be ordered in advance, or on an ad-hoc basis up to 08:45 am each day.

If you pay for school dinners, you must have credit on your account to cover the cost. If your child is sick or they change their mind, please remember to cancel any booked dinners. This is a waste of food, and you will be charged.
